A sitemap is an XML file that lists the URLs of a website along with optional metadata like last modified date and priority. It is submitted to search engines via Google Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools to help crawlers discover and index your content.
WordPress generates a default sitemap at /wp-sitemap.xml. SEO plugins like RankMath generate more detailed sitemaps that can be split by content type (posts, pages, portfolio, products) and include image data. A sitemap does not guarantee indexing but ensures Google is aware of all your pages.
