How do I check the reviews of a web development company?
Check where each review was posted, who wrote it, and whether it matches a real project you can ask about.
To check the reviews of a web development company, confirm where each review was posted, who wrote it, and whether it matches a real project you can ask about. Reviews are useful evidence, but only when you can verify them.
Where to look for reviews
- Clutch, which shows verified client reviews with project details.
- GoodFirms, which lists agencies with client reviews and a verification process.
- Google reviews on the company’s Google Business Profile.
Read reviews on more than one platform. A company that has reviews in only one place, or all posted in the same week, deserves a closer look.

Signs a review may not be trustworthy
- Vague praise with no project, timeline or result mentioned.
- Many reviews posted within a short period.
- Reviewers with no profile, or who cannot be contacted.
- Reviews that talk only about price, not the work.
Ask for references
Ask the company for two past clients with projects similar to yours, and ask those clients three questions: did the project finish on time, how was the communication, and how is the site performing now? A short call with a real client tells you more than a star rating.
Check the work itself
Open two or three sites the company built, and test them on a phone. Are they fast to load, clear to use, and easy to update? A good review should match what you see on the sites. You can also run a quick check with our WordPress speed checker.
Next step
When you have shortlisted companies, compare their proposals with the same brief. If you want an outside check of your own site before you choose, request a free audit.
