How long does it take to speed up a WordPress website?

A WordPress speed fix can start with a speed audit from $200. How long the full fix takes depends on how many pages, plugins and images the site has, so we agree a timeline after the audit rather than guessing before we have seen the site.

What a speed audit checks

The audit looks at the pages that matter most to your business, usually the homepage, the main service pages and the contact page. It measures loading speed on a phone, finds the largest image or script slowing the first view, and checks whether the site is serving pages through a cache. You receive a short report with the fixes ranked by impact.

What affects how long the fixes take

• The number of pages and templates that need changes
• The number of plugins, and whether any of them are no longer needed
• How many large images need resizing or conversion
• Whether the hosting server is slow, which needs a separate conversation with the host
• How quickly you can approve changes and supply any missing assets

What we fix first

We start with the changes that affect the first screen on a phone: image sizes, render-blocking scripts, and space reserved for content that loads late. These usually produce the largest visible gains. We then work through the remaining pages in the order the audit recommends, and we measure again after each group of changes.

Keeping the speed after the fix

Speed slips back when new plugins or large images are added. A simple checklist for your team, plus a monthly check, keeps the site fast. Our WordPress speed optimisation service covers both the fix and the follow-up checks, and you can run a quick first check with our free speed checker.
