Why is my WordPress site showing “coming soon”?
A coming soon page usually appears because a maintenance or coming soon plugin is still active, WooCommerce site visibility is set to coming soon, or your host has a launch setting turned on. Logged-in admins often still see the real site, so always check in a private window.
You open your site and see a coming soon page instead of your homepage. Or worse, you see the real site while customers see “coming soon”. This happens because many tools hide the site from visitors while letting logged-in admins work normally.

Here is where the setting usually lives and how to switch it off safely.
Always test in a private window
Log out or open a private window before you test. As an admin you may skip the coming soon page and see the full site, which hides the problem. What a logged-out visitor sees is what matters.

Where the coming soon page comes from
| Source | Where to switch it off |
|---|---|
| Coming soon or maintenance plugin | The plugin’s settings, or deactivate it |
| WooCommerce site visibility | WooCommerce, Settings, Site visibility |
| Hosting launch setting | Your hosting dashboard |
| Page builder maintenance mode | The builder’s tools or settings |
| Cached copy | Clear plugin, server and CDN caches |
Check 1: plugins
Go to Plugins and look for anything with “coming soon”, “maintenance” or “under construction” in the name. Open its settings and set the mode to live, or deactivate it. Some security plugins and page builders also include a maintenance mode, so check those too.
Check 2: WooCommerce site visibility
Newer versions of WooCommerce can show a coming soon page for the whole site or only the store while you set it up. Go to WooCommerce, then Settings, then Site visibility, and choose Live. WooCommerce explains the options in its coming soon mode documentation.
Check 3: your host
Some hosts add a launch switch for new WordPress installs. Until you click launch in the hosting dashboard, visitors see a holding page. If you cannot find the setting, ask your host’s support.
Check 4: caching
If you already turned the coming soon page off but visitors still see it, a cached copy is being served. Clear your caching plugin, hosting cache and CDN. Our guide to changes not showing lists every cache to check.
Check 5: search engines
If the coming soon page was live for a while, search engines may have stored it. Also check Settings, then Reading, and make sure “Discourage search engines from indexing this site” is not ticked. Then request indexing in Google Search Console once the real site is live.
Using a coming soon page the right way
A coming soon page is useful while you build or rebuild a site. Keep these rules in mind:
- Use a proper 503 status for short maintenance, so search engines know it is temporary.
- Keep the page short, with your contact details and launch date.
- Remove it as soon as the site is ready.
- Check the live site logged out after every launch.
A launch-day checklist
Most of these problems appear on launch day, when a new site goes live but a setting from the build stage is left on. Before you announce the launch, log out and load the home page, a service page and the contact page. Submit a test form. Check the site on a phone using mobile data. Confirm that search engines are allowed to index the site. Finally, clear every cache and test once more. These checks take about ten minutes and prevent most launch-day surprises, including broken forms, missing menus and blocked search indexing.

Frequently asked questions
Why can I see my site but customers cannot?
You are logged in, so the coming soon page does not apply to you. Test in a private window.
Will a coming soon page hurt SEO?
For a few hours, no. For weeks, it can cause pages to drop from search results.
I removed the plugin but the coming soon page is still there. Why?
A cached copy is still being served, or another tool has its own maintenance mode.
Can I show the shop as coming soon but keep the rest live?
Yes. WooCommerce site visibility can limit coming soon to the store pages.
